Todd Boehly makes new Chelsea leadership decision as important exit confirmed

Todd Boehly has made a new Chelsea leadership decision after an exit has been confirmed at Stamford Bridge.

BlueCo took over Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, with the operation spearheaded by chairman Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Chelsea’s owners have overseen various changes over the past three years as they look to deliver success on the pitch in west London.

Chris Jurasek left his position as chief executive in September 2024 after spending less than 18 months in the role.

Jason Gannon was then promoted to president and chief operating officer after making a strong impression at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea make behind-the-scenes moves

SportBusiness reported on 17 September that chief revenue officer Casper Stylsvig has left his role at Chelsea, less than two years after arriving from AC Milan in November 2023.

In a statement on Tuesday (23 September), the Dane’s departure was officially confirmed by the Blues as they announced a new business leadership team.

Todd Kline is now the president of commercial, Phil Lynch is the new chief digital officer and James Murray has been promoted to chief operating officer, with all three reporting to Gannon.

Following the boardroom reshuffle, a Chelsea spokesperson said: “Todd and Phil are both steeped in experience and respected in their fields, and we look forward to continue working with them to drive the club forward, building on the foundations for the future.

“As a club, we also want to express our collective gratitude to Casper for all his work and commitment since joining.

“James Murray’s promotion to COO is well-deserved. Since joining the club, he has played a crucial role in the progress we have made in all areas across the business and we look forward to continuing to grow as a club together.”

Chelsea facing sponsor issues after talks stall

Stylsvig leaves Stamford Bridge after failing to land a lucrative front-of-shirt sponsorship deal.

Enzo Maresca’s side have now started successive campaigns without a primary shirt sponsor, with Chelsea looking to agree a £60million deal after holding talks with various interested parties.

Chelsea’s last major front-of-shirt deal came in the 2023-24 campaign when Infinite Athlete agreed to pay £40m for a single season.

Meanwhile, the Blues have also started the new season without a sleeve sponsor.

Football Insider revealed on 19 September Chelsea are looking to agree a £15m-a-year deal with a new partner.

The London giants are understood to have been in talks with the Haier Group – a Chinese manufacturing company – but it appears the negotiations have now stalled between the two parties.

Chelsea’s latest published accounts for 2023-24 revealed their revenue fell from £512m in 2022-23 to £468m, while their commercial revenue increased from £210m to £225m across the same period.
