Liverpool are admirers of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz with La Liga giants Barcelona also ready to join the race for his signature, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the 25-year-old won't be on the move this month with all interested clubs now focusing their attention on a potential summer swoop.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Liverpool are planning to rival long-term admirers Arsenal for Luiz in the off-season.

Aston Villa

Barcelona are also ready to enter the race for the Brazil international as they plot a midfield rebuild.

It is believed Villa could face a fight to keep hold of the star midfielder when the summer transfer window opens.

He will have just two years remaining on his contract with the Midlands giants in June after penning his most recent extension in October 2022.

Luiz has notched seven goals and six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.

He has been widely recognised as one of the standout stars in the Premier League this term with Villa mounting an unlikely push for the title.

The 25-year-old has been at Villa Park since leaving Man City in 2019 and has racked up 181 appearances for the club, notching 19 goals and 20 assists.

Liverpool

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League on 45 points, while Aston Villa and Arsenal sit third and fourth respectively.
