Man United interim manager Michael Carrick claps

Manchester United are closing in on a return to the Champions League, with interim manager Michael Carrick doing a fine job in the Old Trafford dugout since being handed the reins until the end of the season back in January. Although there was a lot of hope for Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese manager fell massively short and INEOS’ decision to appoint Carrick seemingly has the Red Devils on track to reach Europe’s premium competition. Things are definitely starting to improve in the North-West. However, doubts still linger on who could be in charge of the team come next season, while a big summer transfer window awaits in order to improve a squad that still seems miles short of where Man United see themselves being – at the top of English football.

Despite recent setbacks against Leeds and Bournemouth, the “Carrick-ball” era has restored a sense of technical composure to the midfield, led by the evergreen Bruno Fernandes and the emergence of Benjamin Sesko. As the board conducts its final “due diligence” on permanent targets like Julian Nagelsmann, the Theatre of Dreams remains a cauldron of expectation, balancing the weight of a glorious history with the urgent, modern demand for a return to the summit of English football.
