Chelsea fans all say the same about Djordje Petrovic after Mike Maignan update
Chelsea supporters have been left shocked and confused by their club’s new links with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
The 29-year-old shot-stopper has been a regular at the top level over the last several seasons, starring for AC Milan, Lille, and even earning 30 international caps for France.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano (3 June), the Blues have made an approach to sign the goalkeeper this summer, who has not yet signed a new deal in Italy, as his current deal expires next summer.
Many fans are concerned by Maignan’s injury record over the three seasons, even missing two games during the 2024/25 campaign, and some have pointed out the current options at Stamford Bridge.
Football Insider understood this time last year that Man City were plotting a move for Maignan, and the France international could now land in the Premier League for the 2025/26 campaign.
Enzo Maresca does not need Mike Maignan
The goalkeeping position has been one of frustration at Stamford Bridge over the last two seasons, since Kepa Arrizabalaga was unable to hold down the number one spot before being sent out on loan to Real Madrid and then Bournemouth.
With players beginning to return from their loan spells this summer, the likes of Gabriel Slonina, Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Marcus Bettinelli, and Lucas Bergstrom are all available for pre-season.
Mike Penders is also set to finally arrive from Genk, and in addition to the 19-year-old, Football Insider understands that Aston Villa are interested in Djordje Petrovic, who impressed for Strasbourg.
Supporters were already desperately confused as to why Petrovic had been sent out on loan to Ligue 1 while Sanchez was struggling for Maresca’s side, and those same fans want him to stay at Chelsea next season.

Djordje Petrovic to stay at Chelsea after impressive loan spell
While Maignan is a seriously impressive goalkeeper, with experience across Europe, fans want to see Petrovic trusted as the team’s first-choice shot-stopper for the 2025/26 campaign.
The 25-year-old kept 10 clean sheets in Ligue 1 this season, having started 31 of Strasbourg’s 34 league matches, and fans back in London believe he is ready to feature for the Blues.
One supporter went as far as to suggest that Petrovic would go on to be “Courtois”, while several others stated that he was already better than Maignan after a single loan spell away from Stamford Bridge.
