Agbonlahor on Gerrard facing potential sack after Aston Villa source’s reveal
The pressure is now off Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed the club’s 1-0 win over Southampton last week (16 September) shows Gerrard has learnt a lot.
The 42-year-old told Sky Sports after the game that the “external noise” about his job was “fair” but he was pleased with his side’s recent performances.

Aston Villa lost four of their opening five Premier League games and fans turned on the manager after the 1-0 defeat to West Ham at the end of last month (28 August).
Sources told Football Insider on Saturday (24 September) that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on managing Villa, who have targeted him as a potential Gerrard replacement.
“Sometimes you’ve got to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He said it wasn’t the best football but he got a result, that’s what it’s about at times.
“Managers will get sacked and players will be judged more on results.
“Some players aren’t at it at time and you get the result, the pressure is now off.
“If they had played a lot better and lost the game by a lucky goal then everyone wouldn’t be saying how well they played, they’d be saying ‘We’ve only got four points, Gerrard out’.

“He’s maybe learning a bit more now that yes, you want to play this amazing football, sometimes it’s not going to happen, you’ve got to get the result, get the three points.
“Teams have won Premier League titles and Champions Leagues not playing the best football but by getting the result that’s needed. There’s a fine balance and I think he’s got that.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Aston Villa have a “concerning” wage issue amid a £659million reveal.
